Upcoming BDCEP Events – Spring 2026

BDCEP has a busy and exciting programme of events coming up in early 2026, offering pupils and school staff opportunities to explore democracy, sustainability, creativity, and green careers. All primary, secondary and special schools are welcome unless otherwise stated.

Democracy Event

📅 3 February 2026 | ⏰ 9.30am – 12.00pm
📍 Braintree Council Offices, Causeway House

School Councils (or similar pupil groups) are invited to take part in our upcoming Democracy Event. Schools are encouraged to send 3–4 pupils to:

  • Learn how elections work
  • Take part in a real vote
  • Meet local decision makers
  • Compete to win funding for their school

This event is open to Primary, Secondary and Special schools. There are a few places remaining, so please book here as soon as possible.

🌱 Climate Change Network Meeting

📅 10 February 2026 | ⏰ 2.00pm – 4.00pm
📍 Braintree Museum

This new Climate Change Network is open to any member of school staff or governors with an interest in sustainability and climate change. It will be relevant for Primary, Secondary and SEND schools.

The meeting will include a number of short presentations, including:

  • Mapping sustainability into the curriculum – Ministry of Eco Education
  • Gardening workshop – The Children’s Gardening Coach
  • Education at RHS Hyde Hall – Louis Langenberg, Educator

There will also be time for discussion, networking, and refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits provided). Additional speakers may be announced. Book here

🎨 Art Deco Workshop

📅 26 February 2026 | ⏰ 4.00pm – 5.30pm
📍 Braintree Museum

This popular Art Deco Workshop is now fully booked. However, schools are still encouraged to apply using the booking link — if there is sufficient demand, an additional session will be arranged on a different date. Please contact braintreeschools@gmail.com to register your interest.

Please note: An interest in Art Deco is not required. The creative techniques shared during the workshop will be relevant across a wide range of curriculum topics.

🌿 Green Creative Careers Event

📅 11 March 2026 | ⏰ 9.30am – 2.00pm
📍 Braintree Town Hall

Following the success of our previous Creative Careers Events, this year’s event will have a Green Careers theme and will be aimed at Years 5 and 6.

The day will consist of hands-on, interactive workshops, with expected contributors including:

  • Mercury Theatre – delivering theatre sustainably
  • Signals Media – sustainability-themed activity
  • The Children’s Gardening Coach
  • Ministry of Eco Education

Schools may wish to send whole classes or smaller groups (for example, Eco Councils), particularly in light of travel costs. Groups attending are encouraged to share their learning with the rest of the school afterwards.

Bookings are now open, with workshops expected to be confirmed next week.

🌼 Eco Event 2026

📅 17 April 2026 | ⏰ 9.30am – 2.30pm
📍 Cressing Temple Barns (free parking available)

Our annual Eco Event returns in April. As in previous years, schools are invited to send a small group of pupils to creatively present an eco idea they would like to implement in their own school.

  • Each school usually receives around £100 of funding to support their idea
  • The day includes a workshop delivered by Cressing Temple Barns
  • Pupils and adults should bring a packed lunch

This event is open to Primary, Secondary and Special schools, and further details will be shared later this month. Book here
